While I agree that mediocre, CGI-laden movies seem to dominate these days, there are plenty of great movies in recent years also. When I watch most of the movies you've listed, I am usually surprised that they aren't quite as substantive and interesting as I remember them being as a kid. Star Wars in particular was revolutionary for its effects and scale, but I'm not sure that the dialogue and story itself were amazing on their own.
