Agree. The examples you cite are alarming. I hope these are rare cases
Most folks I know who are into oils, herbs, super foods, etc. are trying to lose weight or get over a cold (they need a placebo). Usually harmless in this context, albeit expensive.

I once had a parent replace the albuterol in her child's nebulizer (in the ED) with an "essential" oil while the nurse/RT was out of the room. Of course it made a terrible sound and the mom was quickly caught; thankfully her child was not intubated. I got a call from the pediatrician asking me, the consulting specialist, to address the situation. The pediatrician mentioned to me that the family knows me from church, and would be more "comfortable" discussing the options with me. It was not fun, and a bit embarrassing because I wonder whether the pediatrician thought there was some connection between my religion and this insanity.
