4.0, 33ACT, sports and extracurriculars, turned down by BYU
(not my kid). I was stunned when I heard about it.

Kids from the same High School with lower grades and lower scores got in. Those kids parents knowing the group were also convinced it must have been a mistake. With their suggestion, her mother called the admissions office to ensure it wasn't a mistake and got nothing but, the, "we take a holistic approach to applications".

What a bunch of yewt. If someone gets turned down because of their ecclesiastic endorsement or the seminary teacher's letter, those adults should be required to disclose it to the kid, and BYU admissions office should be required to explain why someone was turned down. They should put the determination in the rejection letter. The kid shouldn't be surprised in February for something that was done in October.

I'll admit, it wasn't my proudest moment towards my alma mater. A reason should be given if it is either due to the seminary teacher or the ecclesiastical endorsement. Ultimately, a decision has been based on something. Something stinks in Provo and it should be changed. Accountability should be required.
