Pretorian beat me to my post. As he mentioned, the coaches looked for a JC
QB to come in. They had one committed - Hosick, but that didn't turn out. As they searched for a viable QB they couldn't find one that was better than Magnum or Hoge. They further stated, they were not going to sign a QB just to run spring drills - waste of scholarship.

With McCoy's unexpected injury, the coaches made a great move asking Stewart to come in. They are not wasting a scholarship, Stewart provides a higher level of play at the QB than another JC QB would bring. Props to the coaches in a bad situation.

Fowler later added this: in today's recruiting world social media has a huge impact. Coaches are constantly having to build up their recruits in the media i.e. "Magnum is our next QB, etc." As other recruits read these twits and other media outlets they decide it would be better for them to go elsewhere where they can become their own man.

When Blaine and even myself were at the age of being recruited, recruits didn’t necessarily know who was being recruited or coming in. As a recruit you decided you wanted to go and compete. Today, every recruit has the ability within a few strikes of a key pad to know exactly their level of competition…and reading the praises by coaches of recruits. This knowledge influences some players to look elsewhere.

To blame the coaches for the current number of QBs in the system is being naive to the process. Injuries, transfers, academics, honor code, playing time, outside influences (parents), relationship with coaches and teammates, cultural all have impact on a players decision to come or leave. Most of the above are out of the coaches control.

Let's hope for a healthy Taysom and solid OL. In addition, let's hope Magnum and Hoge prepare for to be solid back-ups for the 2015-16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
