A creative, elite coach that is committed to staying at BYU long-term
The LaVell Edwards era was the only time in BYU's history when they were regularly a top team. LaVell's ideas were unusual, and a little out there, but they worked. Even when BYU didn't have the best athletes, the team was successful because the scheme was unique and the coach was great.

Bronco is consistent; Anae is too. They have produced essentially the same result for five years in a row, both on the field and as recruiters.

There will always be at least 10 teams that are athletically superior to BYU, so BYU is only going to be a top-10 program if they outcoach their opponents. Adaptive, creative coaching doesn't strike me as Bronco's strong suit. Likewise, Anae hasn't been very adaptive at any point with BYU. I don't think the addition of any one player would be enough to change the composition of this team. Even with Taysom, some of those games last year against mediocre teams were a little close for comfort.
