My guess is that coaches will watch film on them. As far as game plans go, I would also guess that Utah St's game plan will be much different against Washington with different personnel than anything they have done so far.
The only real advantage I can see is that the player may know the personnel a bit better than what you could see on film. Even then, two football years later players strengths and weaknesses have often changed. Also a coach should be able to dissect this better than anyone on film as opposed to how a player saw it from practices.
Furthermore there is a good chance that Washington coaches can confer with someone from the actual staff. Staff changes so often and it isn't uncommon to be able to pick a previous staff members brain a little bit (although generally not much new information is gathered).
Quite frankly this is an antiquated rule that might have had significance 50 years ago when football information wasn't shared so frequently. Today there just is so little to be gained.
