If they refuse to stay, i go inside with them, put them on their bed, shut the door and sit in front of it so they can't go anywhere. If they get physical with me, I still them on my lap and hold them in a bear hug until they stop struggling, then I pick them back up and put them on their bed and go back and sit down.

When they want to talk calmly and apologize or do whatever is being asked of them, life proceeds forward.
