There was no grand plan or ulterior motive in Bronco saying what he did. Nor is there (usually) when Tom Holmoe speaks. Bronco was responding to a reporter's question, end of story. He gave his view, even saying he was reluctant to get pinned down to a timeline, in part because he knows people over think when he says anything. But he said it anyway, just because he wanted to try and answer the question. There was no subtle plan to twist ESPN's arm for more money or to try to tempt the Big 12 or Pac-12. In fact I think making the statement weakens our bargaining position with a P5 conference, should that be relevant, or even the MWC. You don't telegraph that your options are limited if you want a good offer. This was an unplanned statement that, if I were Bronco, I'd be wishing I'd not made (at least the 3 year part). Committing to that kind of hard deadline can come back to haunt you, say, 3.5 years later if things haven't changed.
