This woman struggles with various issues related to mental health and prescription drug addiction. My wife and two other LDS friends are her best friends. My wife and one of the other friends just try to be there as a friend and be supportive and let the experts (doctors, therapists, etc.) do their job. But the other friend is all about churchy advice: You need to pray. You need to read the scriptures. You need to go to Church. You need to serve. Those things MAY all be relevant for most people but when you are bi polar and addicted to drugs and alcohol you have to deal with those things directly via proper medication, etc. and all the prayer in the world isn't going to change it.
