The point of most games is to win. As far as I know, worrying about who is best is a peripheral concern.

If the two of them were in a free throw shooting contest that consisted of one free throw, DeAndre Jordan could make his free throw and Curry could miss his attempt. DeAndre would be the winner, but I don't think that would necessarily mean that he's the better free throw shooter.
It's the same idea.
Again, I think the goal should be to win. Being better doesn't matter much if you lose.
I'll also always insist that that one win UTEP team wasn't better than BYU. I'd guess that people who voted BYU in the top 20 agree with me. UTEP didn't get a single vote.
