No question better talent would help a ton. There is room for improvement with
recruiting under him, though I give him credit for getting a couple guys in place the last year or two on his staff that have done a much better job of that (though he lost one to CSU a few months ago). However, when a bunch of top LDS recruits get has missed on by BYU because they want to be fawned over, it may reflect a need to adapt a recruiting approach. Bronco trusts his approach, but that may not cut it when it won't attract top available talent. Star, Te'o, Kruger, etc speak to that.

But even with great talent, there has to be better player development. When Reynolds goes from a potential 1st round pick after his Jr year to undrafted; when Ben Olsen and Jake Heaps both come in as 4- or 5- star guys and flame out (one due to injury, one due to massive QB indecisiveness); when Ross Apo becomes a headcase and goes AWOL; when players are oft-injured and a S&C program doesn't do the guys any favors; etc, the lack of drafted players speaks louder than an occasional unheralded lineman or safety or otherwise who has a good combine or pro-day and signs an UFA contract. Or a generational talent like Ziggy who would be a top 5 pick no matter where he played in college, but may have been a Jadaveon Clowney-type #1 pick were he at a program ID'd his ability that got him on the field sooner.
