BYU has been an elite program, despite the religious constraints

Lavell was forward thinking, innovative, hired great coaches, and took risks on recruits. Bronco has run the program a couple steps behind the competition, hired mediocre coaches, took a safe recruiting strategy, and has been very predictable. The results since 2010 have been the fruits of that philosophy.
