It's a good point. Maybe a veteran that only plays 15 minutes per night
because it turns out he's not better than the youth you have on the roster would be a cancer in the locker room because he's not getting more playing time. I just think the Jazz are close to competing for a top 4 playoff spot in the West. I would be ok with them signing someone that may take Burks' or Hood's minutes. I like those two, but why not see if they can get someone better with the huge amount of money they have?

If Wes Matthews, a guy who has already played in Utah and would probably not be weirded out by living here, would come, why not try it? You have a ton of money you have to spend. If he comes in and plays close to how he played in Portland, wow. You just got the steal of the off-season. If he can't recover from his injury (which is a tough one to recover from) you continue your youth movement just like you would've if you wouldn't have signed him. And his salary does nothing to hurt your ability to re-sign your own guys in a few years.

Maybe the Jazz have spoken to Matthews and he wants to go elsewhere. If I were them, I'd at least try.
