The impact of WC soccer viewership in the US is probably one step below insignificant in the global landscape. Worldwide, it is men's soccer that dominates. There are very few women's leagues throughout the world for people to follow to develop a support network--the kind of network that generates the $$$. In fact, I believe I heard recently that several of the countries with teams in the WWC did not even have a national team that many years ago. Only this year did they expand the number of participants...previously there were not even enough teams to field a larger and competitive field.
And in the US, I would imagine that if the men's team was in the final there would be more viewership. The US likes a winner.
