Yup, this is why my first AND ONLY $700 iPad gets thrown around and
slobbered on my by 2-year old.
It works great. Still has 10 hours of battery life. But none of my old apps "work" (even though they did flawlessly a few years ago) because when I upgraded my phone past IOS 5, iTunes automatically removed my old apps from the iPad and told me "I needed to upgrade my iPad" in order to reinstall the latest version of my apps, even though the old apps worked FINE.
Never again.
Too bad, because I love their hardware. The software sucks.
