No, it's because nearly every one of his books has been surrounded by
controversy regarding a lack of accuracy and he's got a reputation for being a general yewt (I met him once and that was my impression as well).

His version of the 1996 story is the most famous, but most of the other people who were there say it's the least accurate. For example, he portrays Anatoli Boukreev as a selfish glory hound, yet other survivors have described Anatoli as someone who comic book heroes wish they could be. Kind of weird that the guy who shoved his way to the top of the mountain and then went and hid in his tent is ripping on the guy who stayed out in the storm rescuing people.
