I don't see it as unethical at all...and I work in the industry. I am not cheating the airlines or getting something for nothing. To the contrary...I am paying for a seat I am not going to use and I am paying the price the airlines asked. They can then give that seat to the oversold ticket or standby. If there are no standbys or oversold individuals then so be it. I paid for the seat.
