And for some reason one of the versatile hunting dog breeds is what I want. I have never been hunting in my life, but maybe I'll be persuaded to start when I get a dog. I'm basically looking for a dog that is easy to train and will be good with my young kids. I was originally set on getting a Brittany, but there are so many dogs to choose from. I am considering the following breeds: german shorthaired pointer, vizsla, small munsterlander, brittany, and wirehaired pointing griffon. Anyone have experience with these breeds? I had an english springer spaniel and a Braque d' Auvergne growing up and they were good dogs.
Any other breeds I should be looking at? I know the dogs are pretty high energy and I plan on taking them running, hiking, biking, etc. I have 3 kids under the age of 6 and will probably have more kids. We do not want a small dog or a huge dog.
