I can't recall ever meeting a mean one. They'd be just as happy being a dog who is a house dog with the family (still having a lot of exercise of course) as they would being active out in the hunting field. Its probably my fav out of the spaniel group that I've met, along with King Charles spaniels but they aren't really much of a hunting dog.
