Scholarship was for playing ball. Can't imagine any school would not cancel the scholarship.
Had he stayed on the team until the semester ended, then it would be OK to have the semester funded. i am very familiar with this business.
Only thing i see that USU did wrong, policy wise, was not letting him talk to other schools. Another unseemly thing was USU coach publicly suggesting poaching. That could have been more discreetly handled.
When something gets this messy, there is often plenty of misconduct on all sides.
