Crowton couldn't keep guys on the field. Maybe Crowton recuited athletes, but what good does the best football player in the country do when he can't live the honor code and can't get on the field? I would have put Crowton as a 70 recruitor because his guys couldn't stay on the field. Where Lavell might not have been beating the pavement after recruits, he did recruit many more NFL caliber players than we've seen through Provo since. I'm not sure I differentiate between who is doing the actual recruiting...I give Lavell recruiting credit for creating an environment where BYU could get the best athletes interested and then putting the right assistance in place to recruit these players. If Crowton is an 89 recruiting, Lavell is 112.
