I think you bring up a good point but looking at the top 10 coaches in BYU
history is not a good argument.

Considering BYU has had three (now four) coaches since 1972, you can't place a lot of stock in the pre-Lavell years. College football today doesn't resemble college football in the 30's, 40's, or 50's at all. Even a lot of Lavell's tenure isn't relevant to today's college football world.

I think Bronco is under appreciated by a lot of BYU fans and many of BYU's limitation during his tenure were BYU problems, not Bronco problems. The hope is that Kalani's strengths will help to overcome those issues but there is a decent possibility that they won't.

At the end of the day it will come down to recruiting relative to the competition. Having recruiting classes in he 60's was good enough in the MWC but it won't be good enough with the schedules that BYU has coming up. If Kalani and whoever succeeds him can't improve BYU's talent level, BYU will be forced to have easier schedules or join a G5 conference.
