basically, yes. it's really no different than what happened with the advent
of the automobile. cars actually cleaned up the environment because manure was absolutely destroying the environment in cities of the time. the same goes for london. london fog wasn't really 'fog', it was actually all of the pollution from the coal burning stoves.
so yeah, i would bet that while there was some sort of inversion prior to the time of BY, i doubt that it was much of anything.
