We buy the mulch at around $20-25 a cu yd, and sell it spread at $50. The profit all comes from the boys' (and leaders/dads) labor. Kind of annoying getting the mulch to all of the customers' yards, but we got about $5,000 in two Saturday's with about 16-20 boys and 5-6 adults.
