We had a child who saw a therapist starting at age 11.
I just let them know from the beginning that we would be participating fully in the sessions. We were always there and gained great insight into helping our child. And honestly parent education is part of the solution. There is a lot of recent research showing that more parent involvement in therapy leads to better outcomes. If the therapist has an issue, I would find a different doctor.
