My concern is that, I've done this, and yes, my intent was to establish dominance over my minor child (different from a adult). Kid was acting up, not listening, and claiming they can do what they want and I can't do anything about it. I got the point across that I am the boss, it is my house, and he better do what he's asked to do or there will be consequences. It definitely helped, but I see there could have been better solutions.

From a parenting standpoint, I should have the right to ring my kids around the neck once in a while. However, in our ultra-protective legal environment, I'm not always on safe ground doing so.
