I hear you, & I purposely linked the linguist story because she points out...
...that Arrival makes some big jumps.
However, I'm not so sure I would come to the conclusions that those jumps are nearly as massive as "Death Stars," "Warp Speed," "Teleporters," "Light Sabers," etc. Don't get me wrong, I love those kind of movies too, but they actually seem less realistic -- at least to me.
