Jamaal is a loss but Taysom...addition by subtraction?
...I don't think the loss of Jamaal is insurmountable and I actually think we'll see enough accumulation of minor improvements in other areas to offset his loss.

1. RB group- we are improving our depth and diversity at the position. We have speed backs (Burt, Fonua, etc) we have shifty/slot receiver type backs (Hall, Dye), every-down back (Canada, Tolutau) and the bruising FB type (El-Bakri, Tolutau).

2. OL Group - we have a lot of returning experience in our 2 deep, guys with a lot of starts (100 total returning starts) and/or a ton of talent (nearly all are 3 star or better) - Hoyt, Kanuch, Koroma, Longson, Norman, Nwigwe, Shoaf, Vaka, etc

3. QB - Taysom struggled with accuracy and decision making last year and was just adequate as a QB (maybe even less than adequate). I think the ability was still there in 2 minute drill situations but not so much the rest of the game. Our offensive struggles last year with the new offense can be tied directly to this. In the case of Tanner's struggle with the new offense, he obviously needed time just like Taysom plus I think last year he was struggling with some off the field things that he later on (maybe) referenced when he opened up about his mental health issues. I think maybe (just my opinion) his getting engaged and then later calling it off last summer maybe contributed to some difficulties on the field last season. He seems more in sync with things now and dialed in for the coming season. I don't think we'll see him struggle on the field like Taysom did with this offense or like he did last year in a squall in the bowl game.

4. WR group - some departing experience will be missed but I think we have good pieces more than capable of replacing them. I think this group will benefit from help from a few areas: The returning OL group giving Tanner more time to throw, the RB/TE groups being more involved in the passing game opening up things for the WR group, and 2nd yr working with the QB in Detmer's offense.

Overall I think we'll see improvement with the offense under Detmer. His offense last year wasn't much worse than the previous two OC's in their first year. Anae's offense in his first year back in 2013 avg 30 pts a game, Doman's first yr as OC he avg 30 pts a game and last year Detmer avg 29.5 pts a game. With a lot of returning talent and really good depth at every position I think we'll see the offense make a nice jump in productivity this next season.
