is really good at swimming, but I am extremely hesitant to get sucked into the competitive swimming machine...it consumes your life.

She's only 8, and she likes to do other sports, but these days 8 is almost considered old for starting year round swim...

Any advice on how to encourage your kid without it taking over everything?
