It's still pretty dumb, and inaccurate. Desert wasteland and burger joints? Well, sure, there's some of that. However, visiting college teams are regularly awed by the Wasatch Mountains right here where a lot of us (most of us) live. I can ride my bike 10 minutes, and I'm in a beautiful canyon along a river, another few minutes I'm passing a waterfall. This is the view from my house TODAY, and it looks pretty cool in the summer too.
Sure, those college teams are not coming from Europe. I'm not going to even suggest that the cities here compare to some of the beauty of old Europe--it doesn't. But, so? His post is a heck of a lot of hyperbole, to the point of being really pretty dumb.
