Mabuhay Coug 3rd String
Much more than sports to me
I am from the small town of North Ogden.(Completely different city from Ogden, and there are more Weber St fans, than Aggies even though there is a USU campus in Brigham City). I had no actual connection to BYU, while growing up; other than the fact that BYU was owned by the LDS Church. I became a fan of BYU, through watching their basketball and football games as a child, but never being able to attend a game in person, until I met started dating my future wife. Her family has had season tickets to BYU football since 1980, and she talked her dad into giving up his tickets one game, so that she could take me for my birthday. I was already a diehard fan, and never missed a game, but now I am a season ticket holder, and have had them since 2007. Even before my wife and I started getting season tickets, we bought 2-4 games each season, which was expensive for us then, which lead to us buying 2 more tickets through her parents and sitting next to them. (otherwise, we would probably still be at the top of the stadium trying to move down)
My wife, both my in-laws, and almost all of our other family are graduates of Weber St; but we all are diehard Coug fan. (It wasn't until recently, that I was able to add BYU-I to my resume, along with Weber St.) Despite our Wild Cat connections, we gladly make that 150 mile round trip commute, each game. I have an auto-immune disease called Crohn's disease, which has been very active since diagnosis, and changed my life in too many ways to accurately list. It not only affects my stadium experience, but makes for some rough anxiety during each commute, along with a lot of sickness, nausea, and pain throughout and the day after each game. Still, it is worth it for me to do this, because of the happiness that BYU football has brought to my wife and I through some extremely difficult times. No matter the surgery, the sickness, or whatever we have had going on, my wife and I still have this one activity that has stayed consistent, and has not been taken from us. Being able to attend BYU games together, is one of the highlights of my year, and now that we have a little boy that goes with us; I feel like the most blessed man on Earth.
