we are ever going to be competitive with Independent front loaded schedules against the big boys.  But is takes time.  Bronco turned it around in one year because Crowton recruited great players that already had a spread type system.  It wasn't that big of a system change (Bronco already ran the defense), and we just needed consistency out of the coaches.  But that is the exception to the rule.  Almost every major program goes through this after a good coach leaves, especially when completely revamping the system.  Alabama went through it before Saban, Ohio State after Tressel, Michigan after Carr, and then after Arod, Florida after Meyer (and is still rebuilding).  BYU just has been incredibly lucky, and frankly, didn't play as brutal of a schedule then either.  The offensive and defensive statistics are going to look much better by the end of the year, but Kalani and Detmer have a solid plan.  BYU can recruit great QBs, lineman, and LBs that want to play in a pro system to get ready for the NFL.  BYU will never have top end speed, so the spread against P5s doesn't make any sense.  The pro style that requires smarts and execution makes far more sense.  Give them time to get the big uglies up front that they need to run the system, and I believe we will see great things.  For now, I just expect bowl eligibility for the next couple of years.  After that, I would expect to see us start to beat some of the better P5 teams and compete in every game.  Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will this program be rebuilt in a year or two.
