That leaves room for 6 OOC games and plenty of quality opponents. Affiliate with teams that have a history and the ability to schedule P5 opponents, including many at home.

The smaller conference would be made of mostly the Big 12's short list and include schools able to get at least 3 or 4 P5 opponents on the OOC schedules, and at least one at home, with the 6-game flexibility. Virtually every conference game would be worthy of at least an ESPN2 (or FS1) broadcast. THAT helps to grab a better TV deal...and it would only need to be split 10 ways.

For Olympic sports, there are two options:

Option #1: Align for football only. There are options for Olymipic sports. BYU has a home in the WCC. SDSU and Boise St. can go to the Big West or Big Sky. UConn and Cincinnati would be attractive for the Big East or Atlantic 10. CUSA and Sun Belt already have non-football members, so I'm certain Memphis, Houston, UCF, and USF would find an acceptable home for their Olympic sports. 

Option #2: Make it an all sports conference. Also invite Gonzaga, Wichita St., and VCU. This would be a Power conference for basketball. To limit cross-country travel in minor sports, align schedules to favor regional matchups for at least half the schedule.

If more teams are needed to justify this an Olympic sports conference, AAC leftovers (Tulsa, SMU, Tulane, Temple?) or other WCC (St. Mary's? Pepperdine?) and A10 schools (UMass, Dayton, Rhode Island?) may accept an Olympic sports invitiation to the new conference.
