The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) was formed in 2008.

Big 12, C-USA, and MWC were formed just over 20 years ago. There is plenty of precedence for the formation of a new conference. 

I believe a conference that includes 7 members that were previously from the same conference can qualify for the NCAA basketball tournament automatic bid. So, the 7 AAC schools (incl. Wichita St. for basketball) would do the trick.
