They do in fact lock the players up.
Sorry, I used to be a roommate with a walk on player and his brother-in-law was a starter on the Dline. Even for home games they would go stay in a local hotel, sequester the players, and so forth. Many programs limit access to players for road and home games. I'm not saying which is right or wrong, but it definitely isn't unheard to have a fair amount of security surrounding the players.
