"But now he's turned into a guy that is they players buddy off the field"
Pretty sure he didn't "just" turn into a guy wanting to be the player's buddy off the field this season. I think he's that guy all the time and it's not a bad thing as long as you can kick a butt when it needs it. We've all had Bishops/Mission Presidents who were the warm, fuzzy, relationship builder who made you feel important and then some who were more of the serious, business-like, hold you accountable while being cold/cool relationship kind of guys. Neither is better or worse, they're just different styles and they don't change my personable accountability.

Kalani was more emotional last season on the sideline because he had inherited a handful of on-the-field leaders who carried the team. He doesn't have that on-the-field leadership this year and if we're all __________________ (choose as many as apply: angry, fed up, disgusted, sick, dismayed, dejected, P-o'd, etc) with the results on the field and find it hard to cheer for what we're seeing play out, it's gotta be 100X more impactful on him.

He's facing some incredibly tough off-season decisions once the football season is over and I don't envy him. Maybe he's learned a hard lesson here about his assistant coaching decisions. Maybe he got some advice from a trusted mentor (Kyle, Gary or Lavell) who told him not to hire so many inexperienced guys or not to hire too many buddies and maybe he didn't listen. He's learned a tough lesson and has some big decisions to make this off-season.
