Utah football is a big part of the equation.
If Utah was still G5, we wouldn't have little brother syndrome right now. BYU would still be the premiere program in the state which means more fans, better in-state recruits, etc.
BYU may not of even opted for being independent if Utah was still in the MWC. Utah football hits BYU where it hurts the most: fans, in state recruiting, and LDS recruiting.
