Sometimes you just have to roll the dice on a young coach with a huge upside. Bronco was a young coach with no previous HC experience who part of Crowton's losing staff but he gave BYU a decade of winning seasons, consecutive bowl appearances and exciting games that are ranked among the top BYU games of all time. He received interest and offers from P5 programs and eventually left for a more lucrative salary at UVA. Can anyone say now that BYU should not have hired Bronco because ha had no previous HC experience?
Having a HC with previous success at that level is nice but that doesn't translate in automatic success. It's a crapshoot either way. Just look at Gary Andersen at OSU.
