institution he works for, with only rare exceptions. There is a reason that nearly all legendary coaches come from legendary programs. Those same men at lesser schools wouldn't even be a footnote in the annals of athletic history. Again, are there exceptions? Yes, but those guys tend to quickly move to greener pastures. And are there bad coaches, even at $1M+? Yes, and they should be replaced.
Many on this board seem to have the impression that an offer of $1M-ish/year will only attract the local high school janitor. That's nonsense. It's a million fricking dollars a year. There are plenty of brilliant minds willing to work very hard for an "insulting" figure like that.
Bottom line: BYU is what it is, and another few million won't change that in a significant way. This is a bad year, and it may be the wrong coaching staff. That can be changed. But money is not the problem.
