Actually a dribble drive followed by two passes is the best
A good, intelligently done dribble drive will get two defenders to commit to you. Following by a couple good passes (1 is often enough) and a shooter should always have a wide open look at the basket.
Unfortunately most people dribbling into the middle have a score first mentality and end up passing when it too late.
