Often last year when I’d watch Bryant drive all the way to the hoop only to get a charging call when the area in front of the basket was too clogged with defenders I’d wonder why he never just pulled up in that area just beneath the foul line but before the restricted area arc and took an easy open jumper before the defense reacted to his drive.
It’s a beautiful thing when you get 3 guys working a triangle together (mid post, mid baseline and wing) and forcing the defense to shift while they work a give and go and get an easy layup. The Tar Heels did this a lot to teams when they went zone on them the past couple seasons.
