that Pres. Bateman had no intention of firing him when he asked Roger to meet him at his office. Roger supposedly came in and right off the bat said something to the effect of "what's this about? Am I getting fired?" etc. The conversation between the two never cooled down and Pres. Bateman, very put off by how Roger was acting, fired him then and there.
This is what Pres. Bateman told my source.
Two other things: 1. Roger eventually got what was described as "a very nice settlement" from BYU.
2. That Pres. Bateman had a short fuse was illustrated by another story in which he heard that a guy on the faculty had supposedly done something questionable (had to do with money), got angry, and had his assistant at the time, Ned B., write a letter of dismissal that was given to the professor the next day. The guy never had a chance to tell his side of the story.
