That's where you lose me.
Why would they be just fine losing the instate recruiting battle? That makes no sense whatsoever. Having in-state players ,whether they are the best in the country or not, attracts local interest. Family, friends, and acquaintances come to the games and watch them on the TV. I have a hard time believing any coach has a ho-hum attitude about losing the majority of in-state talent to a rival school. I know that Utah isn't exactly the hotbed for high school recruits but I would imagine that the Yewts would want more than a small handful.
