It's a coaching and preparation issue. Pope has struggled immensely in post-seas
post-season tournaments. There is a different level of preparation and intensity required that he hasn't seemed to figure out yet. He regularly acts surprised about things that happen in post season tournaments, including in a weak WCC Conference. San Francisco 2022, St. Mary's last year, Texas Tech and Duquesne this year, etc.

"We weren't prepared for their physicality.", "They punked us.", "We didn't expect player X to do Y", etc.

The players are also to blame, but post-season play often requires you to think outside of the box and shake things up. You need to be ready for shots to not fall and play defense like your life depends on it. You never see that intensity with BYU in post-season play.
