I think Pope treated the game like a regular game. He played the same rotations
and didn't plan for the game to be so close.... and then didn't read the situation until halfway through the second half.

As a coach (and nowhere near as good and experienced Pope... I'm not comparing me to him) I know that what I can expect from each player. Sometimes I kept a player in games because I know that even though they appear to be in a slump, that player has the capacity more than another to suddenly break out a good run and score.... only to have it not happen in that game. I'm guessing that is why Aly played so much. But, I have also played some of my lesser players more when they are having a great game. Sadly, I have also made a substitution that hasn't worked out (I put a new goalie in the second half and he immediately made two mistakes that lost the game for us).

Tourney's are different from regular season games. You've got to take chances sometimes because there may be no "next game".
