Good questions/comments, to which I have no answers. I do happen to know the answer to the question of how church funds are used in relation to BYU sports, so I answered it. I am aware of the issues you raise, and I too have concerns as I read about them (I live in OK). So here's how I deal with these things as they arise: Guys like me, and perhaps you, ordinarily do not have access to insider details and information as to how and why decisions are made at the highest levels of the church. We just see (usually) the end result with little accompanying explanation. So for me, it comes down to this: I can only choose to either have confidence in how such things are handled, or not. It's that simple. I've decided that I DO have confidence in how church leadership handles our finances in all matters, including those you mention. This is not a matter of blind faith, or one I have arrived at in a shallow manner. It is a matter of considering a few things I do happen to KNOW about, then weighing and sifting any additional evidence I see out there. Then, at the fork in the road we ALL arrive at, I CHOOSE to have confidence in how church leaders handle things. I could CHOOSE differently, of course, but for me, my years of experience in similar matters leads me to have confidence in what the Brethren are doing with my donations. And I have no problem with those who arrive at a different decision.
