One of the things that Rose stresses is to push the ball and try to catch the defense in transition. It isn't always about the fast break...but it is about trying to get the ball up before the defense has a chance to get set.
Where Carlino will get better is recognizing when the shot isn't there and then slowing it to set up the half court offense. It is easy for us to make that call...it is a little bit tougher when you are pushing the ball at light speed trying to catch the defense in turmoil.
I think there is a reason Rose doesn't slow him down much...it's because he doesn't want him to slow down much. I think he would rather let an aggressive Carlino grow in judgement as opposed to stifling that aggression.
Carlino just needs a little refinement and he will be the perfect PG for the type of offense Rose likes to run. All in all, he has exceeded my expectations. The kid is pretty darn good.
