They do have a real reason for dropping the game
If they're going to go 4-5 in conference play most years, and if they have a game against a B1G team (which is a probable loss), and if the powers that be decide bowl eligible teams have to win at least 7 games, the utes HAVE to schedule 2 home game cupcakes to even have a shot at a low level bowl game. They can't risk a loss to BYU.
