Wow. This is just sad.
So Utah has been doing this hand signal since "pre 1973" (according to you). So at a minimum, 50 years.

What is sad about that...Miami didn't start doing it until 1992. So according to you, Utah had, at a minimum, a 20 year head start on Miami with the hand signal, yet by your own admission, the entire country knows that symbol as Miami's, not Utah's.

Essentially, Utah had exclusivity on the symbol for at least 20 years (maybe more according to you) and could not make it there own. Miami, the school known as "the U" in every state but one, starts doing it and in a few so years, the entire country knows it as Miami's symbol. From the article you so kindly provided...

1992- Throwing up the U

The hand gesture is recognized around the country.

Over the years, it grew and grew, Routh said. Everyone now knows when you do the U, they know exactly what youre talking about.
-------------------------

It would be less embarrassing had you just stole it from them, rather than use it exclusively for at least 20 years, have no one recognize it as yours, and then Miami use it for a few short years and the entire country recognize it as theirs. It just speaks to the irrelevancy of the Utes.
