What you are missing here is that recruiting is effected by better facilities
For BYU they have very nice facilities and having even better facilities would not increase the pool of candidates for them. For Utah it will. To really compete for the top recruits (sorry, Utah and BYU rarely square off for those guys) the $$$ can make a difference.

With better players, you should eventually have a better team. Better team makes you more competitive and gives you a better chance to do something special.

Hey, you got to take a chance and have an opportunity to play in the big leagues. The money helps but it is not the end game. Compteting at the highest level is the end game. Isn't that why BYU ultimately went indy? That is why Utah accepted the PAC 12 offer, not the $$$. The money is a good thing but it is secondary and can actually help with the first objective.

If you think Whitt or Hill or anyone at Utah (including fans) are just happy to be in the PAC 12, you are sorely mistaken. Money or no money, we want to win.

Now, the money discussion is here is simply on topic with the OP. We are not here bragging, just sharing some additional information to consider.
